Tournament Guidelines
9-Ball
Official DCTX 9-ball tournament rules and guidelines.
01
Breaking Rules
- The break must be taken from the box with the 1 ball on the spot and the 2 ball in the back.
- Players may use their own rack templates if desired.
- If you foul on the break such as a miscue, it’s your opponent’s option to break.
- The 9 ball does not count when positioned in the racking corners.
- Should a player make the 9 on the break in those corners without fouling, it is then spotted and the player keeps shooting.
02
Push Rule
- Players have the option to push after the break.
- If a player pushes, their opponent may either shoot from that position or return the shot.
- If returned, play passes to the next person in the rotation rather than back to the original breaker.
- Example: In a team match (Team 1: Players A & B vs Team 2: Players C & D), if Player A breaks and pushes, Player C can return it to Player B. This means Player C forfeits their turn, so the next Team 2 player to shoot would be Player D.
